Dr. James Geist is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences at the University of Detroit-Mercy, School of Dentistry. Dr. Geist teaches courses in Radiology, General Pathology and Oral Pathology to dental hygiene, dental, and graduate students. He also serves as Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Imaging Center at the University.  Dr. Geist received his DDS degree from the University of Illinois and an M.S. degree in Oral Pathology from Indiana University. He is a past president of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, and the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology.

“3 D Endodontics: Cone Beam-Computed Tomography (CBCT)”

Dr. Askar grew up in Baghdad, Iraq. Dr. Askar knew from an early age that he – like his father and mother – would thrive in the dental field. Immediately after finishing high school, he moved to the United States and earned his Bachelors of Science in Biology from Calvin College. Dr. Askar continued his education at Wayne State University to earn a Masters of Science in Basic Medical Sciences. He then attended the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Dentistry where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery and graduated with High Distinction in 2013.

Following his graduation, he completed a one-year general practice residency at Summa Health Hospital in Ohio, where he treated medically compromised patients and performed a wide variety of esthetic, surgical and endodontic dental procedures.

In 2016, Dr. Askar completed a two-year residency in Endodontics at Indiana University School of Dentistry and received his Masters of Science in Dentistry and his Certificate of Endodontics. During his specialty training, Dr. Askar was involved in regenerative endodontics. He was invited to present his research topic “Direct and indirect antibacterial effects of various concentrations of triple antibiotic pastes loaded in a methylcellulose system” at the American Associate of Endodontists 2016 annual session. Later that year, his research work was recognized and published.

Dr. Askar is a member of the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, the Michigan Association of Endodontics, the American Association of Endodontists, and is Board-eligible with the American Board of Endodontics.

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Diabetes But Were Afraid To Ask”

George Grunberger, MD, FACP, FACE is the chairman of Grunberger Diabetes Institute in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Dr. Grunberger, is also Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine and of Molecular Medicine & Genetics at Wayne State University School of Medicine, Professor of Internal Medicine at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine as well as Visiting Professor at First Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic).

Before establishing GDI in 2002, Dr. Grunberger was Director of the Diabetes Program at the Detroit Medical Center for 16 years and the Medical Director of Wayne State University’s Morris J. Hood Comprehensive Diabetes Center. Dr. Grunberger held tenured Full Professor appointments at the University in Department of Internal Medicine and in the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics since 1986. Between 1997 and 2001 he was Henry L. Brasza Director of the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics. Prior to that Dr. Grunberger served as interim Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine and Physician-in-Chief of the Detroit Medical Center. Dr. Grunberger came to Detroit from the Diabetes Branch (at NIDDK) of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Grunberger received his internal medicine training at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, his medical (M.D.) training at the New York University School of Medicine and his bachelor’s degree (in biochemistry) at Columbia College of Columbia University, also in New York City.

Dr. Grunberger has published over 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts as well as review articles, abstracts and book chapters. His research interests have spanned the spectrum of subjects related to diabetes and its complications, from basic studies on molecular underpinning of insulin action and insulin resistance to clinical research studies on many aspects of diabetes and its management.

Dr. Grunberger has been an active member of many professional organizations where he has held elected positions of leadership. He is currently the Past President of American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and President Elect of the American College of Endocrinology. He is a co-editor of two international diabetes journals. Dr. Grunberger has served as an educator of medical students, interns, residents, endocrinology fellows, master’s and Ph.D. candidates, and junior faculty over the past 35 years.

She teaches Oral Diagnosis and Radiology and Oral Medicine courses for undergraduate and graduate dental students. Additional responsibilities include Oral Medicine/Oral Pathology consultation for undergraduate and graduate dental clinics. She has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine since 1992 and provides diagnosis and management services for referred patients with various oral diseases. Her interests focus on educational research in integrated oral health. She has published numerous papers and book chapters.

Dr. Rachel Stockhausen attended Indiana University and was granted early admission into dental school at the University of Detroit-Mercy in 1998, Dr. Stockhausen then practiced as a general dentist in the Metro Detroit area for 5 years. She furthered her education at the University Of Connecticut School Of Dental Medicine by specializing in their endodontic program where, during her residency, she was chosen to be the Chief Resident. After completing her specialty training in 2010 she returned to practice in Michigan where she now lives in Northville with her husband, Ryan Wright and their son Jonathan.

Dr. Stockhausen was the recipient of the New Dentist Award for Excellence in 2007. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, the Michigan Association of Endodontics, the American Association of Endodontics, Zeta Tau Alpha and was induced into the prestigious Pierre Fauchard Academy. She is the president of the Western Branch of the Detroit District Dental Society and the Secretary of the Detroit District Dental Society.

He is a Fellow of the International Congress of  Prosthodontics, American Dental Association and numerous local dental societies.  His practice has been limited to Prosthodontics since 1986.  Dr. Girskis was named the head coach of Ann Arbor Gabriel High School.

The presentation will include a hands on demonstration with the help of Dobbs Dental Ceramics, and Henry Schein.

and dental hygiene programs. Dr. Foong also participates in clinical teaching, providing chair-side pharmacology

and therapeutics instruction.
